“Lordship Theology”

Part 2:

Theology as Application

Our theology is to be done under his Lordship to spread His glory, causing us to joyfully worship.

I found the most joy and comfort from Frame’s defintion of Theology as

“the application of the Word of God to all areas of life.”

He is defining “application” as doctrine and doctrine as defined in the New Testament (NT). Paul, writing to Timothy explains that “From childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim 3:15). We need to be acquainted with the Word of God  or “doctrine.”

If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed” (1 Tim 4:6).

Everyone does theology. By praying you are ‘doing’ theology. By repenting by Christ’s worthy sacrifice, you are doing ‘theology’ because you are reacting to the Word as the Lord has called us too.

For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food” (Heb 5:12) we are all called to teach by the word in deed and song.”Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning”(Ps. 119:54). Indeed the song we sing in our hearts is the blessing of knowing and being made before God in Christ.

Whenever God reveals himself He does so in a way that as His creatures we can understand him. Reading our Bibles when we come to a confusing passage or we don’t understand why God has done something in our life

It is Circular, Get Over It.

Scripture itself states that it is the word of God, it is therefore circular. Just like all systems! This is so freeing (and I believe correct)!!

“The infallible authority of God can not be demeaned from knowing truth to know God. Instead, knowing God is to know truth (Frame)!”
